I am looking to get enough Test of Honour figs for 4 different forces.

I am looking at the bundles, but thought it simplest to just ask for a specific recommendation. I've read a few threads, but rather than adding there, thought I would start a new one.

Here are thoughts,

Takeda Sengoku Bundle
Sohei Warrior Monks Bundle
Test of Honour Starter Bundle
Ruffians and Allies Bundle
Ikko Rebel Bundle
Musashi

If I got the above, what fillers do I need for 4 forces?

With samurai, I highly recommend painting one army (or even test figure) first. Not everyone enjoys painting laces etc

@DukeWacoan,

I assume you mean 4 forces for Test of Honour games. ToH is pretty flexible for creating forces, but I'd recommend the Ashigaru Command Group, the Ashigaru with Bows and Muskets and the Ashigaru Spearmen. The first gives you an extra sergeant
– so you can have one for each side if you're pitting two Samurai/Ashigaru forces against each other. The bows and muskets will round out the single bow and musketeer you get with the starter bundle, which allows you to field a group of three. The spearmen are different than the ones in the starter bundle – and you can always use more spearmen. Alternatively you can order the Ashigaru Reinforcements bundle which has the above three sets plus two fire archers, which are in the Takeda set.

Hope that helps.

Those bundles give you plenty for 4 forces with a fair amount of options. 24 points really is the sweet spot for playing the game, 12–18 points each for multi-player games.

Anything else you might add is just more flavour options.

Yes. Something that would let 4 people each have unique forces for round Robin play.

Fortunately or not, I can't paint a link, but I have a few really good folk who do commissions for me.

I'm guessing the players won't all be that familiar with the game if you're providing the whole set-up. You might want to tweak your choices.

The Takeda bundle has a lot of funky optional weapons that would mostly add a bit of complexity; not the best starter force. I think going with 2 of the basic Samurai Warband bundles, painted as different clans, would work better — they really are the bread and butter of the game.

Each of the two boxes in the Ruffians and Allies bundle can work as stand-alone 24 point forces. Each has multiple card options for the figures with different costs, so there are options on how to stat out the force. You could go with just one box out of the bundle and still have a full player force. Or stick with the bundle if you want to have a pile of fun character models.

The Ikko-Ikki does give nice options to the Sohei and/or could also provide options for the Allies/Ruffians.

Thanks for the advice. I made an order and will see how it all looks.

Have fun with it!

I have a somewhat similar group of forces in the works that will get moved to the front burner after Huzzah Con in two weeks.

In order to get forces on the table quickly, I've commissioned someone to paint a pair of basic Samurai Warbands (Perry) while I've been working on another big project for Huzzah.

Then I 've got the figures primed and ready for me to paint for two more groups that grew a little large just because it's been fun collecting minis and and doing some conversions — a religious fighting force of Shrine Maidens, Nuns, and Onna Bugeisha (a mix of Warlord, Bad Squiddo, Ral Partha, and some others); and the Ruffians box backed up with some miscellaneous Ninja and bandits (Bac Ninh and Bad Squiddo).
