Today 18 May 2024 is US Armed Forces Day. My Military Officers Assoc. of America(MOAA) group went to Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, OH this morning. We were not the only group out there. Boy Scouts, High School Teams, etc. were some of the others. We watched the flag raising ceremony with a 21 gun Salute from a VFW, etc. They were using the old M1 Rifle from WWII. Then we moved to our designated locations in the cemetery. And planted US flags on all the Veterans' graves. We even posted them on my Father's and Uncles'. With my painful left hip as I wait for the VA to give me a replacement. [They already did my right hip a few years back.] So, I couldn't post any of the flags as I can't walk too much. And limp a lot. But my sister suddenly got Patriotic, and she planted the flags along with my MOAA comrades. When it was all done the entire cemetery was full of those little US Flags on the Vets' graves. God bless America ! |

Sadly not a drop of mention on our local news here, and little to no note of May being Military Appreciation Month. At least mention of events and plans for Memorial Day have made the news. As for Military Appreciation Month, several other "month" causes took precedent over it. Sad state of affairs. Guess too few veterans alive and too little recognition for our current service men and women. That is a disgrace. |

I believe you are correct Bismarck. I think among Veterans' groups of all types, e.g. VFW, American Legion, etc. we still are aware. But like many things currently our history is forgotten or even erased. |
